Rome, July 10 (LaPresse) – A commemorative ceremony was held in Rome, on Via Mogadiscio, to mark the 49th anniversary of the terrorist attack against magistrate Vittorio Occorsio, which took place in 1976. Occorsio, a symbolic figure in the fight against terrorism and neo-fascism, was awarded the Gold Medal for Civil Valor for his extraordinary dedication to the State and justice.

During the ceremony, speeches were made by Roberto Gualtieri, Mayor of Rome, who laid a wreath on behalf of the city; Alfredo Mantovano, Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers; Giovanni Melillo, National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor; Claudio Domizi, Commander of the Carabinieri Officers School; and Susanna Occorsio, the magistrate’s daughter. Family members, friends, and numerous representatives of civil and military institutions were also present.

The commemoration continued at the Rome Court in the Occorsio Hall among district magistrates. Moving testimonies were given by Susanna Occorsio and Roberta Lomurno, a trainee magistrate, who spoke about how Occorsio’s story and human experience serve as an example in her early career as a Public Prosecutor.

As part of the commemorative events, some initiatives for the 50th anniversary of magistrate Occorsio, to be held in 2026, were presented. These include an exhibition at the State Archives, five days of conferences, and a school program on research methodologies in the age of artificial intelligence. All activities will be managed by an honorary committee promoted by the Vittorio Occorsio Foundation ETS.

The commemorations renewed the collective commitment to defending constitutional values and remembering those, like Occorsio, who paid with their lives for their service to legality and democracy.
