Naples, 8 July (LaPresse) – A large seizure of cocaine has been made in the port of Gioia Tauro. As part of their monitoring and control operations in the port area of Gioia Tauro, officers from the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria noticed late at night that some containers had been placed in a dimly lit area near a crane that was not in operation at the time. The Gioia Tauro Group opened all the containers stored in the suspicious area, one of which was visibly damaged, and in one of these they found 16 bags containing 385 blocks of cocaine, weighing a total of 417 kg. The drugs were seized as evidence. The economic loss inflicted on the criminal organisations is estimated at around €67 million. Following the transmission of the documents compiled to the Public Prosecutor's Office in Palmi, the judicial authorities validated the seizure.
