Rome, July 5 (LaPresse) – Two patients remain hospitalized in serious condition at Sant’Eugenio Hospital following yesterday’s explosion in Rome. According to a statement from the ASL Roma 2 health authority, both patients are "sedated and undergoing assisted mechanical ventilation. Their condition remains stable within the severity of the clinical picture, and monitoring by the multidisciplinary team continues uninterrupted."
The statement further explains that "one of the two patients — who has third-degree burns covering 55% of their body surface — has undergone an initial enzymatic escharolysis procedure, aimed at removing necrotic tissue using selective enzymes. This intervention represents the first step in the complex therapeutic process for major burn victims. The prognosis remains guarded."
In the last few hours, a third male patient was admitted to the unit after being transferred from San Giovanni Hospital. His overall condition is good: he is conscious, alert, and does not require ventilatory support. He has third-degree burns on one upper limb, affecting about 10% of his body surface. A specialist evaluation is underway to determine the most appropriate treatment, with the goal of ensuring the best possible outcome.
The clinical status of the patients is being constantly assessed and managed by highly qualified personnel. New updates will be issued only in the event of significant changes in the patients’ health conditions.
