Milan, June 20 (LaPresse) – The high-resolution photographs, it has been learned, will be used by the defense to examine, in the most accurate way possible — given they cannot directly access the physical evidence — the condition and preservation of the items, as well as how they appeared when originally analyzed by the RIS (Scientific Investigations Department).
Viewing the images may lead to a possible request for further trace analysis, should any material still be available.
Specifically, the defense will also be granted access to the genetic profiles and DNA electropherograms analyzed during the investigation.
The presence of Massimo Bossetti’s nuclear DNA on Yara Gambirasio’s underwear was considered the key piece of evidence — the so-called “smoking gun.” From there, following an investigation involving over 23,000 DNA samples, the identity of “Unknown 1” was finally revealed to be Massimo Bossetti.
Following the court's decision, expected to be implemented within a month, the defense may obtain new grounds to request a possible retrial.
