Rome, 20 June (LaPresse) – Security has been stepped up in cities and tourist areas: from 1 July to 1 September, the plan to increase controls across the country ordered by the Interior Ministry will come into effect. A total of 2,328 additional officers from the State Police, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza will be deployed to support the law enforcement agencies already engaged in routine activities. The announcement was made by the Ministry of the Interior. The plan is the result of an integrated analysis that takes into account forecasts of tourist arrivals, seasonal population density and provincial crime rates, which have been compiled and shared by the various forces. It is a targeted intervention, designed to ensure a widespread and reassuring presence in the places where the largest influx of people is expected. In addition to the reinforcements assigned to regular patrols, six new traffic and railway police detachments will be deployed, involving 49 specialised officers, including dog units and mounted police. These will be joined by 83 Carabinieri officers assigned to 19 temporary posts in areas affected by heavy tourist traffic. On the coast, 68 naval units of the Guardia di Finanza will be operational, with 715 military personnel on board and stationed in 26 coastal locations.
