Cucchi case: statute of limitations for Casarsa and confirmation of Sabatino's conviction for cover-ups

Rome, June 19 (LaPresse) – The Rome Court of Appeal confirmed the one year and three months sentence for Lorenzo Sabatino, in the trial related to cover-ups linked to the beating and death of Stefano Cucchi, the 31-year-old Roman who was arrested on October 15, 2009, and died seven days later at Sandro Pertini hospital. The two-and-a-half-year sentence for the carabiniere Luca De Cianni was also confirmed. For General Alessandro Casarsa, Francesco Cavallo, and Luciano Soligo, the statute of limitations was recognized. Massimiliano Colombo Labriola and Tiziano Testarmata were acquitted in the second instance, after previously being sentenced to one year and nine months. Finally, Francesco Di Sano's sentence was reduced to ten months. The defendants were charged with various offenses depending on their positions, including forgery, aiding and abetting, failure to report, and defamation.
