Rome, June 3 (LaPresse) – The Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office has entrusted the ROS Carabinieri with verifying the identity of a body found in a mass grave near Raqqa, Syria, which could belong to Father Paolo Dall’Oglio, the Jesuit missionary who disappeared on July 29, 2013, in the northern part of the country, then under ISIS control. According to initial information, the corpse was wearing religious garments. Formal identification has not yet been made. In 2023, the Rome investigating judge closed the inquiry opened in 2013, accepting the Prosecutor’s request due to the lack of objective evidence about the fate of the Roman priest, who had traveled to Syria to negotiate the release of some hostages.
