Naples, May 16 (LaPresse) – “Who most deserved to be killed?” That was the question posed in a poll shared in a class group chat at a high school in Bassano del Grappa, in the province of Vicenza. The options given were: Giulia Tramontano, Mariella Anastasi, and Giulia Cecchettin.
The case was brought to light by Women for Freedom, an organization based in Bassano del Grappa dedicated to defending women and children in emergency situations. The group also published screenshots of the chat on social media, revealing the disturbing poll created by someone within the group.
“This is not just a tasteless prank or an inappropriate joke,” the association emphasized. “It is a complete lack of empathy. It’s a broken mirror reflecting a part of our society that still does not understand—or refuses to understand—how deep the wound of femicide truly is.”
“Giulia Cecchettin was stabbed 75 times. She was just a few years older than the teenagers now joking about tragedies like hers. She had dreams, friends, a family. Just like Giulia Tramontano, who was seven months pregnant. Just like Mariella Anastasi, who was burned alive. And it’s not enough to say ‘they’re just kids,’ because those who create such a poll know exactly that they’re causing pain. They’re choosing to trample on grief. They’re, in some way, playing with the deaths of others. And those who vote, those who laugh, those who stay silent… they are part of the problem.”
