Milan, 10 May (LaPresse) – The official coat of arms and motto of Pope Leo XIV have been published. The coat of arms, as explained by Vatican News, depicts a shield divided diagonally into two sections: the upper section has a blue background and features a white lily; the lower section has a light background and depicts an image reminiscent of the Order of St. Augustine: a closed book with a heart pierced by an arrow. The image recalls the experience of St. Augustine's conversion. In essence, therefore, Leo XIV confirmed the coat of arms chosen for his episcopal consecration as well as the motto ‘In Illo uno unum’. These are the words that Saint Augustine pronounced in a sermon, the Exposition on Psalm 127, to explain that ‘although we Christians are many, in the one Christ we are one’.
