Rome, May 3 (LaPresse) – “Collegiality supports the Pope in steering the Barque of Peter. The Pontiff is not a lone man in command — in the conclave we are looking for a conductor, not a soloist,” said Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Vatican Prefect for the Causes of Saints, in an interview with La Stampa. “The Pope alone does not exist,” he added. “Of course, the episcopal body has authority only if united with its head. But even the Pope’s role as head of the episcopal college must be exercised in unity with it.” He also addressed concerns about the diverse backgrounds of the voting cardinals: “It may seem a weakness for the Conclave, but at various levels many of the cardinals already know one another. Moreover, mutual listening in recent days has helped overcome several challenges.”
