Milan, 29 April (LaPresse) – Fabiana Chiarappa was ‘still alive’ after falling off her motorbike and died ‘solely as a result’ of being ‘crushed’ by the Fiat Bravo driven by Don Nicola D'Onghia. This was written by the investigating magistrate of Bari, Nicola Bonante, in the order for preventive custody under house arrest against the 54-year-old priest accused of aggravated vehicular homicide and failure to render aid for running over and killing the 32-year-old woman in Turi, in the province of Bari, on 2 April 2025, and fleeing after the accident. D'Onghia ‘was using his mobile phone while driving’, according to the 31-page order granting the request of public prosecutor Ileana Ramundo and her deputy Ciro Angelillis. Analysis of the phone records revealed ‘continuous and constant use of the mobile phone while driving’ by the priest, who was ‘engaged in conversations and attempts to make calls up to 11 seconds before the fatal collision’.
