Palermo, April 27 (LaPresse) – Two young men from the Zen district of Palermo are being intensely questioned at the provincial headquarters of the Carabinieri in Palermo. They are suspected of involvement in the Monreale massacre, in which three young men with no criminal records were killed last night and two others were injured. The Carabinieri’s operational unit is interrogating them after reviewing footage from numerous surveillance cameras on Via Benedetto d'Acquisto and hearing testimony from dozens of witnesses present during the shooting. Early investigations suggest that a group from Zen, about ten individuals, was trying to steal some parked scooters on the street connecting Piazza Duomo to the Belvedere. The fight that escalated into a shooting reportedly broke out because the young men from Monreale noticed the group's intentions and tried to defend their scooters. Initially, the Monreale youths managed to repel the attackers, but the Zen group returned minutes later armed with at least two guns. According to investigators, two individuals fired the shots at the Monreale group, and both have been identified thanks to surveillance footage.
