Rome, 25 April (LaPresse) – An enhanced plan of surveillance and road traffic services in the area of St. Peter's Basilica is being implemented these days by the Rome Capital Local Police. The commitment will be greater in these hours, in view of the celebration of the Esequial Mass scheduled for tomorrow 26 April, which will be followed by the procession for the transfer of the coffin to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. Starting at midnight today, the closures around St. Peter's Basilica will be progressively extended. In addition to the transit bans already in place in Piazza Pio XII, Borgo Santo Spirito, Via Paolo VI, Piazza del Sant' Uffizio, Via di Porta Angelica, Borgo Sant'Angelo, Via dei Corridori. From 00:00 on 26/04/2025 and until all requirements cease, the area within the following perimeter will be closed: Piazza Risorgimento, Via Crescenzio, Piazza Adriana and Lungotevere in Sassia. Transit will be prohibited in the Principe Amedeo Savoia Aosta tunnel, Via Stefano Porcari, from Piazza del Risorgimento; Ponte P.A.S.A., Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II, except for emergency vehicles. From the early hours of the morning, traffic will also be interdicted on Via Gregorio VII from Piazza Pio XI to Via di Porta Cavalleggeri and Via delle Fornaci in the section towards Piazza San Pietro. Further closures of the areas surrounding the event area may be implemented in order to guarantee the safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
