Naples, 19 April (LaPresse) – The archbishop of Sorrento-Castellammare di Stabia, Monsignor Francesco Alfano, went on Friday evening before the Stations of the Cross at the lower station of the Faito cable car, where a small altar was improvised with candles, flowers and cards for the victims of the accident on Thursday that cost four people their lives. The archbishop prayed in silence in front of the station, before walking the Via Crucis through the streets of Castellammare. ‘We have tried to make our hope truer, more authentic,’ he said at the end of the Way of the Cross in the city, ’we have tried to be close to the people who suffer, the way of the cross is always demanding. This time, however, it was so difficult, because the heart is torn open by a suffering that touches everyone. We are here on behalf of the whole city. When pain becomes tragedy and touches us closely, shattering any dream of recovery, we are at a loss for words. It feels like a dream has vanished into thin air. We cannot hide that we feel defeated. You Lord, who dry our tears and heal our hearts, welcome those who have lost their lives in the places dear to us, loved and appreciated by so many. Before the Stations of the Cross I was with the mayor, and in silence, each for what he or she feels, we raised a cry of pain that becomes hope’.
