Rome, 16 April (LaPresse) – Close to the national pro-Palestine demonstration in Milan and just a few days before the inauguration of the work ‘The Star of David’ Edith Bruck by artist aleXsandro Palombo acquired by the Shoah Museum in Rome, an anti-Semitic action was vandalised the mural celebrating three of the last great witnesses of the Holocaust, Liliana Segre, Edith Bruck and Sami Modiano in Simpson version, in the artist's typical pop style. On their figures is the large inscription ‘Nazi Israelis’ with the Star of David, the equal sign and the Nazi swastika. The work also portrayed Pope Francis with a sign and the message denouncing the spread of anti-Semitism, the Holy Father's face was erased along with the inscription ‘Anti-Semitism is everywhere’. ‘Those who deface think they are offending us. Instead, it makes us even more convinced and cohesive around the remembrance project. Commitment that as citizens we make for the future of our country,' said Noemi Di Segni, President of UCEI Unione delle Comunità Ebraiche Italiane. ‘In Milan, people are calling for a halt to the war on Gaza with acts of vandalism throughout the city, freely shouting any kind of anti-Semitic insult and ending up vilely defacing with a large swastika a pop artwork celebrating three of the last great witnesses and symbols of peace who survived the horrors of the Shoah. It is unacceptable and shameful,' said contemporary artist aleXsandro Palombo. Only a few days ago, Holocaust survivor Edith Bruck took part in the inauguration event of the mural ‘The Star of David’ Edith Bruck by contemporary artist aleXsandro Palombo, a work that has become part of the permanent collection of the Shoah Museum in Rome, alongside ‘Anti-Semitism, History Repeating’ Liliana Segre and Sami Modiano, the other mural by artist aleXsandro Palombo acquired by the Foundation last January and also exhibited in the ancient Jewish ghetto in front of the Portico d'Ottavia.
