Milan, April 14 (LaPresse) – Floriana Calcagno has been arrested for allegedly aiding Matteo Messina Denaro during the final period of his time as a fugitive. The investigation, led by the Central Operational Service and the ROS (Special Operations Group), carried out a pre-trial detention order issued by the judge for preliminary investigations of the Palermo Court, at the request of the Anti-Mafia District Directorate.
Calcagno is under investigation for aiding and abetting and for helping him evade capture, both aggravated by the fact that they were committed to benefit the mafia organization Cosa Nostra.
The woman, a teacher by profession, is closely related to Francesco Luppino, a senior figure in the Campobello di Mazara mafia clan and a longtime trusted associate of the former fugitive.
The investigation—based on phone records, cell tower data, surveillance footage, and statements from informants—revealed the active role played by Calcagno in the final stages of Messina Denaro's time on the run.
Specifically, evidence suggests that Floriana Calcagno provided logistical support, assistance, and both moral and material help to the fugitive in the areas of Campobello di Mazara, Mazara del Vallo, Tre Fontane, and other towns in the province of Trapani.
