Vatican City (Vatican), Apr 13 (LaPresse) – ‘In the history of salvation, where no one is a stranger, no one is a stranger’. So said Pope Francis in his homily prepared for the Palm Sunday Mass. The text of the homily was read by Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Vice Dean of the College of Cardinals, delegated by Bergoglio to preside over the function. Sandri said he was ‘honoured’ to read the text in which Francis reflected on the figure of Simon of Cyrene, one of the protagonists of the Gospel passage from the Passion read during the service. ‘Jesus comes to meet everyone,’ the Pope writes, ’in any situation. When we see the multitude of men and women who hate and violence throw themselves on the road to Calvary, let us remember that God transforms this road into a place of redemption, because he travelled it by giving his life for us. How many Cyrenians carry the cross of Christ! Do we recognise them? Do we see the Lord in their faces, torn by war and misery? In the face of the atrocious injustice of evil, carrying the cross of Christ is never in vain, on the contrary, it is the most concrete way of sharing his saving love’.
