Teramo, April 8 (LaPresse) – An investigation has been opened into the death of a 6-month-old baby, possibly a case of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), which occurred yesterday in a nursery in Teramo. The public prosecutor overseeing the investigation is Francesca Zani. For Serena, the name of the baby, it is believed that a fatal cardiac arrhythmia, linked to an immaturity of the heart activity control center in the brainstem, or suffocation due to airway obstruction of various kinds, also related to the baby’s immaturity, could be the cause. Both hypotheses refer to SIDS. An autopsy, ordered by the Teramo court and carried out by forensic pathologist Davide Girolami, will clarify the exact cause of the baby's death, which occurred yesterday afternoon. One of the nursery educators noticed that the baby was not breathing in her crib, and despite immediate attempts to provide assistance, there was nothing that could be done. The body is available to the judicial authorities at the Sant’Omero hospital. Investigations are being carried out by the Carabinieri of Teramo.
