Rome, 1 Apr. (LaPresse) – ‘We are suing and have sued as civil parties because we think it's important to see justice done and above all to set in motion everything necessary to change the way business is done and to ensure that episodes of this nature can no longer happen’. So said the secretary general of the Cgil Maurizio Landini at the demonstration organised by the union in front of the court in Latina for the first hearing of the trial for the death of the labourer Satnam Singh. ‘We don't think this is simply an isolated case. And it is a mistake to think that this trial will simply solve the problem’, added the union representative. ’We are concerned, because the season is starting again and the data we continue to verify on health and safety is negative, as well as the data regarding gang masters, illegal labour and exploitation. We are not seeing the trend reversal that would be necessary. However, the impression is that with the Satnam case we have really reached an almost insurmountable limit, which is respect for human life’, he added.
