Pope, Bagnasco: ‘Talk of resignation is out of place’

Milan, 2 Mar. (LaPresse) – ‘The College of Cardinals is compact around the Holy Father and is praying for the fastest and most complete recovery possible’. Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, archbishop emeritus of Genoa and former president of the Italian Episcopal Conference, said this in an interview with Repubblica. Regarding those who raise the possibility that the Pope, who has been hospitalised at Gemelli since 14 February, might resign, Bagnasco says: ‘there is no reason to talk about it. Similarly, there is no reason to talk about the post-Bergoglio period either: ‘The Church is not an organisation, and therefore these speeches, or thoughts, about what will be, what will be done and how, seem to me to be just out of place. The Pope is there and he confirms us in the faith as St Peter did'.
