Vatican City, Feb. 28 (LaPresse) – Pope Francis will not preside over the Ash Wednesday rites. As announced by the Holy See press office, the Pope has delegated the duties to the Major Penitentiary, Cardinal Angelo De Donatis.
"At 4:30 PM," the statement reads, "the 'station' liturgy will begin at the Church of Sant'Anselmo on the Aventine, followed by the penitential procession toward the Basilica of Santa Sabina. The procession will include Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, Benedictine Monks from Sant'Anselmo, Dominican Fathers from Santa Sabina, and some faithful. After the procession, a Eucharistic Celebration will take place at the Basilica of Santa Sabina, including the blessing and imposition of ashes."
