Vatican City, February 23 (LaPresse) – "The Holy Father's condition remains critical; however, since last evening, he has not experienced any further respiratory crises. He received two units of concentrated red blood cells with benefit and an increase in hemoglobin levels. Thrombocytopenia remains stable." This is according to an update from the Holy See Press Office on Pope Francis' health condition. "Some blood tests show initial, mild kidney failure, which is currently under control. High-flow oxygen therapy continues through nasal cannulas. Thrombocytopenia remains stable," reads the statement, which emphasizes that the "complexity of the clinical picture, and the necessary waiting for the pharmacological therapies to show some response, require the prognosis to remain reserved."
