Milan, Feb. 18 (LaPresse) – Over 780 kg of pure cocaine: this is the massive drug shipment seized by the Guardia di Finanza of Reggio Calabria in collaboration with the Customs and Monopolies Agency at the port of Gioia Tauro.

The bricks of white powder were discovered during the inspection of three suspicious containers arriving from South America and destined for ports in Italy and Spain. Some were hidden inside hundreds of bags of pellets, while others were concealed in a compartment within the engine space of a refrigerated container carrying frozen fish.

Specifically, the seized containers were first subjected to an in-depth X-ray scan using advanced scanning equipment provided by the Customs and Monopolies Agency, followed by a thorough inspection with the help of sniffer dog units from the Guardia di Finanza team in Gioia Tauro.

The confiscated drug shipment, totaling 788 kilograms, could have generated over €126 million once distributed on the market.
