Milan, Feb. 4 (LaPresse) – The Court of Appeal of Turin has sentenced Victor Ulinici to 16 years in prison for throwing an electric bike from the Murazzi balcony along the Po River in Turin, severely injuring Palermo student Mauro Glorioso in January 2023.

The defendant, who is of legal age, was not granted mitigating circumstances, as ordered by the Court of Cassation, which had requested a review of the initial 10-year and 8-month sentence handed down in the first-instance trial conducted under summary procedure.

"It is truly difficult, in a trial with such tragic consequences, to take satisfaction in a sentence that is indeed severe but reflects the gravity of the act," said Simona Grabbi, the lawyer representing Mauro Glorioso's family. She noted that the Court of Cassation had deemed the previous ruling’s justification for granting mitigating circumstances inadequate, as it was based solely on the defendant’s young age.

In the appeal trial ordered by the Cassation Court, "no mitigating circumstances were granted" to Ulinici, and "since the base sentence could not be modified," the judge "simply reduced the 24-year penalty by one-third," Grabbi explained.
