Rome, Feb 3 (LaPresse) – The Carabinieri Special Operations Group (ROS), supported by the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri in Naples, executed a precautionary order issued by the investigating judge of the Campania capital, at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, against 25 individuals. Among them, 20 were placed in custody in prison and 5 under house arrest. They are seriously suspected, in various capacities, of mafia-type criminal association, political-mafia electoral exchange, extortion, attempted extortion, usury, fraudulent transfer of assets, corruption, and other crimes. These offenses are aggravated as they were allegedly committed using mafia methods and with the aim of facilitating the activities of the Mallardo clan, which operates in Giugliano in Campania and surrounding areas. Specifically, the illicit activities were allegedly carried out by the suspects to finance the organization's "common fund," which is used to support affiliates, including those in prison, and their families. Furthermore, the clan is said to have intervened in various disputes between private individuals and influenced the operations of the municipal administration, particularly during the electoral campaign for the municipal elections in Giugliano in Campania in September 2020. The investigating judge also issued a preventive seizure order for various assets, including financial accounts, land, buildings, companies, and businesses, amounting to several million euros.
