Milan, Jan. 14 (LaPresse) – A woman sustained severe burns in a fire that broke out in the Third Medicine ward of Spedali Civili hospital in Brescia. The blaze originated from a mattress.
Firefighters from Brescia responded to the scene. A total of 26 patients were evacuated from the ward and relocated to safe areas within the hospital. The Fire Department’s NIA (Investigative Fire Unit) from Lombardy has been activated and is currently conducting investigations at the site.
The firefighters continued their work by securing the ward, which has been temporarily closed for necessary restoration operations. All activities in the Third Medicine ward are suspended.
The hospital's internal emergency plan was implemented following proper procedures, with fire safety personnel promptly intervening. Fire doors successfully compartmentalized the affected area, preventing the spread of smoke and flames to other parts of the facility.
