Piersanti Mattarella, with his reforming action, pursued an idea of a Region with ‘the papers in order’, based on transparency, efficiency and respect for the institutions. Today we remember not only his sacrifice, but also his extraordinary example, which continues to guide our daily commitment for a Sicily free from the mafia and injustice'. This was said by the President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the murder of the President of the Region, Piersanti Mattarella. ‘We welcome with hope and confidence,’ Schifani continued, ‘the new investigation launched by the Palermo Public Prosecutor's Office to finally shed full light on the material perpetrators of his barbaric murder. It is a necessary step to restore truth and justice, not only to the memory of Mattarella and his family, but to all Sicilians who believe in a future of legality and progress.
