NASA: "Signs of ancient life on Mars, but further studies needed"

Cape Canaveral (Florida, USA), Sept. 10 (LaPresse/AP) – Perseverance, NASA's rover, has discovered rocks in a dry river channel that may contain potential signs of ancient microscopic life, scientists reported Wednesday. NASA scientists, however, highlight the need for further study and thorough analysis of the sample collected by Perseverance before drawing any conclusions. On Mars since 2021, the rover cannot directly detect life. Instead, it carries a drill to penetrate rocks and tubes to hold samples collected from places considered most suitable for life billions of years ago. The samples are awaiting retrieval to Earth, an ambitious plan that has been suspended while NASA seeks cheaper and faster options.
