Sea: More and more Blue Flags in Italy, 487 beaches among the best

Rome, May 13 (LaPresse) – Italy has seen a continued rise in Blue Flag beaches. According to the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), 246 municipalities and 84 tourist marinas have been awarded the 2025 Blue Flag, totaling 487 beaches, which represent approximately 11.5% of all Blue Flag beaches worldwide.

“Once again this year, we have recorded an increase in the number of municipalities receiving the Blue Flag recognition – 246, including 15 newcomers,” said Claudio Mazza, president of FEE Italy.
“This year, we asked local governments to draft and submit an Action Plan for Sustainability, outlining both completed and planned activities for the 2025–2027 period. This tool will accompany each municipality throughout its Blue Flag journey.”

The core focus of the sustainability plan, it was explained, is “the community as a whole, with the goal of addressing global environmental challenges, reinforcing efforts to combat climate change, and improving the quality of life for both citizens and tourists.”
