Rome, April 15 (LaPresse) – "Europe is warming faster than any other continent." This is the key message of the joint report prepared by the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on the state of the European climate (European State of the Climate 2024).
According to the new report, "Europe is the fastest-warming continent, and the impacts of climate change are clear."
The year 2024 was "the warmest year ever recorded for Europe, with record-breaking temperatures in central, eastern, and southeastern regions."
Storms were "often violent, and widespread flooding caused at least 335 deaths and affected around 413,000 people."
Over the course of the year, there was "a notable east-west contrast in climate conditions, with extremely dry and often record-hot conditions in the east, and warm but humid conditions in the west."
Copernicus is implemented by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts on behalf of the European Commission.
