Rome, 9 April (LaPresse) – No Italian directors are in the running for the 2026 Palme d'Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, scheduled to take place from 12 to 23 May. Among the films in competition are Pedro Almodóvar’s ‘Amarga Navidad’, Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s ‘El Ser Querido’ (The Beloved) starring Javier Bardem, ‘Fjord’ by Romanian director Cristian Mungiu, Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev’s ‘Minotaur’, Hirokazu Kore-eda with the dystopian family drama “Sheep in the Box”, Pawel Pawlikowski with “Fatherland” and Lazlo Nemes’ “Moulin”. Right up until the last moment, during the official press conference in Paris, there was hope that Nanni Moretti’s “Succederà stanotte” would make the list. General Delegate Thierry Fremaux announced that 95% of the films have been revealed, as some titles will be added next week. The Competition jury will be chaired by South Korean director, screenwriter and film producer Park Chan-wook.
