Madrid (Spain), 24 February (LaPresse) – Well-known singer Julio Iglesias has initiated preliminary legal action against Spanish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour Yolanda Díaz for calling him a ‘sexual harasser’. In particular, El País reports that he has filed a request for conciliation against Díaz, a necessary step in order to then file a complaint for slander or defamation. Iglesias was accused of sexual assault and alleged trafficking by two former employees, but the complaint, filed in Spain, was dismissed by the National Court for lack of jurisdiction. The singer's lawyers accuse the Sumar leader of making “insulting” statements, directly attributing to their client the status of “sexual harasser”, of keeping employees in a state of “slavery” and of having erected a “power structure based on permanent violence”. Iglesias is asking Díaz to retract her statements, acknowledge “the damage caused” and “compensate him”.
