Milan, Feb. 9 (LaPresse) – From February 10 to 24, the Cinemateket in Oslo, Norway, will host a retrospective dedicated to Italian screenwriter and director Liliana Cavani. Together with the Oslo Film Archive, the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Oslo is organizing this showcase of Cavani’s cinema, opening the series with the 1989 film Francesco, one of three works by the Carpi-born director dedicated to the Saint. The evening will be introduced by Cristiana Paternò, film critic, director of Cinecittà News, and author of the monograph Liliana Cavani. Il cinema e i film published by Marsilio. The introductory lecture aims to highlight the strength, universality, and modernity of Saint Francis’s human legacy as expressed through the seventh art and Cavani’s masterful performances, full of restless spirituality and a special transcendent dimension. The program includes the screening of Francesco (1989) on February 10 at 6 p.m., with an introductory lecture by Cristiana Paternò. This will be followed by I cannibali (1969) on February 12, 14, and 20; Il portiere di notte on February 13, 15, and 21; La pelle (1981) on February 22 and 27; and Il gioco di Ripley (2002) on February 24 and 26, in which John Malkovich excels as the elegant and ruthless Ripley in Liliana Cavani’s sophisticated thriller.
