Milan, 11 January (LaPresse) – Farewell to Bob Weir, renowned singer-songwriter and guitarist, considered “the other founder” of the Grateful Dead. Weir died at the age of 78 from lung complications after bravely battling cancer. His family said: ‘He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, after fighting cancer with strength, as only he knew how to do.’ Last summer, the musician returned to the stage to celebrate 60 years of music at Golden Gate Park. Weir's career began at the age of 16 when he met Jerry Garcia in Palo Alto: they played together all night, giving rise to the Grateful Dead, which was later joined by Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, Phil Lesh and Bill Kreutzmann, founding the legendary American band.
