Bucharest (Romania) 19 Dec. (LaPresse/AP) – American rapper Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in prison by a Romanian court for drug possession. The incident dates back to July 2024, when the artist was stopped by local police after smoking a joint on stage at the “Beach, Please! Festival” in Costinesti, a coastal town in Constanta County. The prosecutor said the rapper was found in possession of more than 18 grams of cannabis, some of which was consumed on stage. The decision by the Constanta Court of Appeal came after Khalifa was initially fined approximately $830 in April for “illegal possession of dangerous substances”, a sentence that did not convince the prosecutor, who appealed. Romania has some of the strictest drug laws in Europe. Possession of cannabis for personal use is considered a criminal offence and can result in a prison sentence of between three months and two years, or a fine. It is unclear whether the Romanian authorities will file an extradition request, as Khalifa is a US citizen and does not reside in Romania.
