Rome, Oct. 21 (LaPresse) – "Thank you all for your support, it means a lot. We are here to defend freedom of the press, but freedom of the press is not an empty phrase, it must be filled with substance. Freedom of the press means talking about 6 million people who cannot receive medical care or about the 5 million poor and studying the causes. Freedom of the press means fighting to hand over a better world to future generations." This is what Sigfrido Ranucci, journalist and host of the investigative program 'Report' on Rai3, said at the sidelines of the demonstration for press freedom in Piazza Santi Apostoli in Rome. "I don't know who placed the device in front of my house, but if the attempt was to silence me and my team, they targeted the wrong people," Ranucci added. "I would like us to take advantage of this moment of unity to give real meaning to the theme of freedom of the press, which means being able to inform the public and fight to hand over a better world to future generations." Addressing the crowd gathered at the event, Ranucci said: "Be wary of politicians who do not respond to the press, because it shows contempt for the public. Of those who run away and do not take responsibility in front of a team (that of 'Report', editor's note) that has always done so, even risking their lives."
