Milan, 6 September (LaPresse) – ‘Elegance and sobriety are his hallmarks. In my opinion, his style transcends fashion trends; it remains pure and essential, essentially showing us that it is possible to be strong while remaining simple. This is his main characteristic.’ This is how actor Massimo Lopez remembers Giorgio Armani shortly before entering the designer's funeral chapel, set up at the Armani Silos in Milan. Lopez also recalled a personal memory: "I remember when I walked into one of his shops, I was trying on a blue coat and Giorgio suddenly came in and greeted me and said, 'What are you trying on? It's a blue coat. He made me try on a beige one, but I wanted blue. No, no, beige, he insisted, beige is fine. I put on this beige coat, then he crumpled it up, saying, 'I do this to my models, so I have to crumple them up. Do you have any shirts? No, I said, and he started counting: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 shirts. Here's the coat, here are the shirts, and he gave me everything. I was very surprised." Over the years, there have been other encounters between the designer and the actor. ‘The last time I saw him? Well, I was at the latest fashion shows, but we only saw each other from a distance because he was leaving. And then I saw him last year, in the summer, I was passing by in a dinghy under his yacht and he was leaning out, so we saw each other there. He waved to me.’
