Venice, 30 August (LaPresse) – "It's more than a dream, it's almost a religion. I grew up Catholic and when I saw Boris Karloff's film, it was like seeing the Messiah. I waited for the right moment to be able to make it in a different way, one that would strike a chord with the whole world.‘ So said Mexican director Guillermo del Toro during the press conference at the Venice Film Festival for the presentation of the film “Frankenstein”, which is in competition. ’I've wanted to do it since I was a child," he added. ‘The creature is very biographical, I wanted it to be born from scratch. I wanted something beautiful, like an alabaster statue. I didn't want there to be any stitches, but for the doctor to create a perfect creature,’ Del Toro continued.
