Rome, 29 June (LaPresse) – Beyoncé is at the centre of controversy over a T-shirt worn during a concert in Paris on her Cowboy Carter tour. The Houston pop star's T-shirt featured images of the Buffalo Soldiers, a black unit of the US Army active in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and on the back a long description of the soldiers that included 'their adversaries were the enemies of peace, order and settlement: warring Indians, bandits, cattle rustlers, murderous gunmen, smugglers, lawbreakers and Mexican revolutionaries'. This week, several indigenous influencers, artists and academics took to social media to criticise Beyoncé or describe the language on the T-shirt as anti-indigenous, just as the star prepares to return to the United States to perform in her hometown.
