Palermo, July 23 (LaPresse) – A moment of fear occurred last night during the Village People concert at the Teatro di Verdura in Palermo. Victor Willis, 73, collapsed while performing the song "Key West". The singer was assisted by a doctor who was in the audience and then taken to Villa Sofia Hospital.

After initial tests and medical examinations, the leader of the Village People requested to be discharged voluntarily so he could return to the United States as scheduled.

Italy’s Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, was also in the front row at the event in Palermo. The concert marked the opening of the Sicilia Jazz Festival.

"The singer appeared to be in excellent shape during the two days of rehearsals, showing great enthusiasm for the project with the Sicilian Jazz Orchestra," said the organizers.
