Rome, June 9 (LaPresse) – The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 82nd Venice Film Festival has been awarded to the American actress Kim Novak (“Vertigo”, “Picnic”, “Bell, Book and Candle”), who will receive it during the event scheduled from August 27 to September 6. This was announced by the Venice Biennale, emphasizing that the decision was made by the institution’s Board of Directors upon the proposal of the festival’s artistic director, Alberto Barbera.

“I am very, very honored to receive the prestigious Golden Lion award from such a respected film festival. Being recognized for the entirety of my work at this stage of my life is a dream come true. I will cherish every moment spent in Venice. It will fill my heart with joy,” Novak commented.

“Elevated to the status of diva without intending to, Kim Novak was one of the most beloved stars of an entire era of Hollywood cinema, from her accidental debut in the mid-1950s to her premature and voluntary exile from the golden prison of Los Angeles shortly thereafter,” said Barbera. “A system that the actress never ceased to criticize, choosing her roles carefully and even her name. Forced to give up her birth name, Marilyn Pauline, because of its association with Monroe, she fought to keep her surname, agreeing in exchange to dye her hair platinum blonde—a look that became iconic,” he added.
