The award will be presented on Wednesday, May 7 as part of the prizegiving ceremony live, in prime time on Rai 1, from the Cinecittà studios and broadcast in 4K (on channel Rai4K, number 210 on Tivùsat). The 2025 edition will be hosted by Elena Sofia Ricci and Mika. The evening will also be live on Rai Radio2 – hosted by Carolina Di Domenico – and will be available on the RaiPlay platform. ‘We are particularly happy to award the David Speciale to Ornella Muti, an actress and diva capable of traversing the best of Italian cinema and achieving international success,’ said Piera Detassis, President and Artistic Director of the Accademia del Cinema Italiano. ’Right from her debut with La moglie più bella, inspired by the story of Franca Viola, a symbol of the civil growth of post World War II Italy, her filmography has been made up of films and true masterpieces capable of probing the world of women and Italian society in a poetic and sometimes unprejudiced manner, from Romanzo popolare to L'ultima donna, from Storie di ordinaria follia to Io e mia sorella, without forgetting her complicity with directors such as Asia Argento and Francesca Archibugi. A star of absolute beauty, she has given liveliness and irony to the most popular comedy paired with Adriano Celentano. Ornella Muti is a light and never conceited talent, yet capable of memorable performances for Ettore Scola, Francesco Rosi, Francesco Maselli and Paolo Virzì. The David di Donatello Special Award is thus intended to recognise a prestigious and versatile career that has never forgotten to focus on the values of life and empathy’.Among the already announced awards of the 70th edition of the David di Donatello Awards, the David of the Spectator to Diamanti by Ferzan Özpetek and the David for Best International Film to Anora by Sean Baker.
