(LaPresse) – On Tuesday 13 May 2025, American actor, director and producer Robert De Niro will receive an honorary Palme d'Or for lifetime achievement at the opening ceremony of the 78th Cannes Film Festival, 14 years after chairing the jury in 2011. ‘There are faces that represent the seventh art and lines of dialogue that leave an indelible mark on cinephilia. With his internalised style, which emerges in a gentle smile or a hard look, Robert De Niro has become a cinema legend’, the motivation reads. ‘I have such strong feelings for the Cannes Film Festival…’ he said after learning that he had been awarded the honorary Palme d'Or. ’Especially now that there are so many things in the world that drive us apart, Cannes unites us: storytellers, directors, fans and friends. It's like coming home.’
