Turin, March 19 (LaPresse) – After being presented in the official competition at the Venice International Film Festival, Queer by Luca Guadagnino will be released in Italy by Lucky Red starting April 17. Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey deliver extraordinary performances, bringing to life a universal love story—something that always stands out in Guadagnino’s work. The film explores themes of obsession, addiction, fear, emotional vulnerability, solitude, seduction, and fleeting moments of inexplicable joy in an intimate and profound narrative. Based on the novel Queer by William S. Burroughs, the story is set in 1950. William Lee, an American nearing fifty, has expatriated to Mexico City. He spends most of his days alone, except for occasional interactions with the small American expatriate community. His encounter with Eugene Allerton, a young student newly arrived in the city, gives him his first real hope of forming an intimate connection with someone. Written by Justin Kuritzkes, the film stars Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Henrique Zaga, Omar Apollo, Andra Ursuta, Andres Duprat, Ariel Schulman, Drew Droege, Michael Borremans, David Lowery, Lisandro Alonso, and Colin Bates. Queer is a Fremantle film, produced by The Apartment (a Fremantle Group company) and Frenesy Film Company, along with Fremantle North America, in collaboration with Cinecittà Spa and Frame by Frame.
