We are currently reviewing it and will respond in due course,” said a spokesperson for the European Commission regarding the request from Italy and four other countries to explore a measure taxing energy companies’ windfall profits. “More broadly, the Commission is working closely with Member States on possible targeted policy measures in response to the current energy crisis facing Europe. “Although we are not in the same situation, it is important to take into account the lessons learned from 2022, including the EU’s temporary solidarity contribution,” the spokesperson added.
