Milan, 20 March (LaPresse) – In January 2026, Istat estimates a quarterly decline in imports (-1.3%), whilst exports remain virtually unchanged (-0.1%), with the month-on-month trend in exports reflecting an increase for the EU area (+1.4%) and a decline for the non-EU area (-1.6%). In the quarter from November 2025 to January 2026, compared with the previous quarter, exports were essentially stable (-0.1%), whilst imports fell by 2.2%. On an annual basis, however, exports fell by 4.6% in value and 5.8% in volume. The year-on-year decline in exports in monetary terms affects both areas, the EU (-3.9%) and non-EU (-5.5%). Imports recorded a year-on-year decline of 7.4% in value, affecting the non-EU area (-13.9%) to a greater extent than the EU area (-2.0%); in volume terms, imports fell by 2.9%.
