Milan, 17 February (LaPresse) – Stefano Scarpetta has been appointed as the new Chief Economist of the OECD, with his appointment set to begin on 1 April 2026. Scarpetta, according to a statement from the OECD, has an excellent international reputation as an economist, built up over more than three decades of high-level service. Since 2013, he has headed the OECD's Directorate for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs at the OECD, where he has overseen major initiatives, including the OECD Employment Strategy, and strengthened the organisation's capacity to assess the impact of major structural transformations – including demographic change, digitalisation and artificial intelligence – on labour markets and public services. He also served as sous-sherpa to the G7 and G20 on employment and social policy issues.
