Naples, 19 Jan. (LaPresse) – ‘The different functioning of the Superior Council of Magistrates has a specific objective: to bring the actions of magistrates under political control.’ This was stated by Maurizio Landini, secretary general of the CGIL trade union, in Naples during an initiative organised by the FP CGIL trade union to campaign against the referendum on justice. ‘It is precisely because our Constitution states that the law is equal for all,’ added Landini, ‘that we need magistrates and an autonomous justice system that does not answer to this or that political power, but only to the law.’ According to Landini, 'this referendum has absolutely nothing to do with making justice work better. And we are here to say that our problem is not to limit the autonomy or independence of the judiciary, our problem is to make justice work when it does not work. For example, if the government does not take any action, in June, 12,000 precarious workers hired under the NRRP, who have made an important contribution in recent months, will be laid off. Just as there has been a shortage of jobs for years. Investments should be made in both personnel and technology, but from this point of view, we are in a complete vacuum."
