Rome, Jan 16 (LaPresse) – The new Antitrust investigation into video games is welcome and, if any illegal practices are confirmed, we will initiate legal actions to protect the buyers of the products under investigation. This is stated by Codacons, which in 2020 already filed a complaint that led the Antitrust authority to intervene on video games and unfair practices affecting minors. The practice of “in-game” purchases is particularly insidious, as it is embedded in games aimed at minors to induce children to make purchases or ask their parents to do so, often using attractive graphics and aggressive messages specifically designed to influence the behavior of young players, who have fewer means of protection – explains Codacons. The damage is not only economic, as such unfair practices can develop dangerous forms of gaming addiction in minors. For this reason, if the Antitrust investigation reveals illegalities, we will take the appropriate compensation actions on behalf of all parents who purchased the video games under investigation – concludes the association.
