Rome, Dec. 19 (LaPresse) – The three-month increase in the retirement age for law enforcement personnel provided for in the budget bill as of 2027 has been postponed. A revised measure was approved by the Senate Budget Committee, under which the increase will take effect by one month per year in 2028, 2029 and 2030. In addition, through a Prime Ministerial decree (DPCM), “upon proposal of the Minister of Defence, the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Justice, in agreement with the Minister of Economy and Finance, in compliance with public finance balance requirements” and taking into account spending limits, “the specific professional categories for which, due to the particular nature of their duties, the additional increase may not apply or may apply only partially” will be identified. Funds are allocated amounting to “20 million euros for each of the years 2027, 2028 and 2029, and 10 million euros per year starting from 2030.” A further fund of 10 million euros per year from 2026 to 2029 is also established, “to be used for the conclusion of specific insurance policies for legal protection and third-party civil liability coverage in favor of personnel of the Armed Forces, Police Forces and the National Fire Brigade for non-intentional harmful events caused to third parties in the performance of their duties.”
